Investigating Self-Body Perception and its Effect on Affordance in Augmented Reality

Abstract

We present an augmented-reality system that modifies the apparent width of a user’s body and a user study examining how this transformation affects self-body perception and perceived affordance. The results show that the system can modify participants’ affordances and highlight strong individual variability, including interactions with embodiment and initial body perception.
