Perceptual Realism in Mixed Reality using Novel Near-Eye Display Technologies

Global context and issue

This project aims to enhance human perception and interaction in Mixed Reality (MR) by first improving MR displays and rendering technologies and then conducting user experiments to evaluate these advancements. MR encompasses Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), where digital content is integrated with the real world through various head-mounted displays. Realism in virtual objects is crucial for effective perception and interaction, but current MR technologies face limitations in rendering. The project will leverage the Japanese team’s expertise in optical elements and the French team’s knowledge in human perception to propose and test new interaction techniques, aiming to surpass realism to achieve more effective and perceptually acceptable MR experiences.
