Feel resistance through vision

Move the sphere through the coloured band. Its displayed motion slows down there, which may make the mouse feel resistant.

Click “Take control”, then move the mouse. Escape releases the cursor so you can adjust the effect. You can also drag inside the scene, or use the arrow keys.

How it works

Outside the zone, movement gain is 1. Inside, a 25% gain means the same mouse movement moves the sphere only a quarter as far. Disable resistance or set the speed to 100% to compare. Motion slows in every direction; the sphere never catches up to the cursor afterwards.

The mouse produces no additional force: only visual feedback changes. The sensation varies with the person and context. Keyboard and touch show the mechanism; use a mouse to explore the illusion.
